I think Radio Shack sells a RCA to F connector adapter.yes they do and it also has a couple of extra inputs in case you need them - works great.

RE: Towing a Boxster 4-down?

The issues are a bit different in that the engine is midship and the tires are not so aggressive.
I doubt the mid-engine matters much and maybe your tires weren't aggressive, mine were ('98 986) until I used it as a daily driver!
You guys need to post one one of the Porsche sites to learn which shaft the rear wheels turn on the tranny. If it's the lower it;ll probably tow OK but if it's the upper I doubt it (assuming a splash lube system).

RE: Intel to skip Vista upgrade

Another HUGE advantage of the message based software architecture is scalability. Thanks - scalability - was the word that I could not get my brain to come up with. That's how the messaging cost was overcome by Tandem Computers in the 70's (now HP NonStop Servers). Linear scalability of up to 16 CPUs per system with a messaging system that seamlessly spans CPUs is the trick. The systems also scale linearly and, with the messaging system also spanning systems seamlessly, you can basically throw as much hardware as you like at any problem without modifying one line of software code.

RE: Intel to skip Vista upgrade

If it is isn't a microkernel architecture, what are the advantages/disadvantages of other architectures? We don't call it "microkernel" but I've been developing software for 25 years for a true message-based operating system in the "mainframe" world (now we call them servers). Messaging and non-shared memory offers incredible protection between applications and users and yet also offers incredible flexibility in software development. There can be a penalty to pay for using messaging - the system I work on solved did a pretty good job of solving that problem and today's hardware has pretty much eliminated any additional overhead cost. I did a year worth of NT development in the mid-90's and recall it did not offer a lot of memory protection.

RE: Towing RWD vwhin 4WD

Well I think if he's in "4WD HI" mode that would imply the transfer case is not in neutral wouldn't it? My guess - and it surely is a guess - a) that since he removed the rear shaft the transfer case has no neutral, only 4 Hi and 4 Lo; and b) that IF the OP has auto-locking front hubs and they stayed unlocked he is fine. If they decided to lock up it would seem to me you could do some damage to your automatic transmission even if it is in neutral.

RE: I have to tow a 1997 Wrangler...

It does get confusing when you get differing responses - my '92 said tranny in 5th. Maybe to keep it simple someone with a Jeep of the '97 vintage (like RicJones) could just scan the two pages in the manual and post them or send them to me and I'll post them.

RE: Dumping stations in NJ?

I'm "new" to rving (returning after a 25 yr absence). I've been trying to locate dumping stations close to my home (Jersey Shore area, on the Ocean/Monmouth County border).
If you're coming home over the Delaware Memorial Bridge immediately as you get on 295 there is a rest area with a very nice dump station.
I tried to PM you but you have a restricted list.

RE: Yacht sales and rentals are way down

I think it is time to go to the coast and take a hard look at a large Yacht, they tell me the prices are way down, it is like RVing in the water. I've been doing the same thing looking at trawlers. As with most everything (except food fuel :W) prices are coming down nicely.

RE: Using Firefox, need advice re different IS program

The two big benefits you get from Norton IS are anti-virus and firewall. The big problem you get with IS is the type of thing you are experiencing plus many others.
I would recommend you Google "Avast" or AVG - two free anti-virus programs that work very well. For a firewall you could simple turn on your Windows Firewall or Google "Zonealarm".

RE: Intel to skip Vista upgrade

It's a difficult situation - a company wants to keep up with the latest technology but it's not cheap. We see the same thing in high-end computers - those > $250,000 entry points. If the old system chugs along doing its job why change it. Unlike the 80's when money was being thrown all over the place at new computer systems (the 90'2 for PC's), today upgrades often don't happen until the support costs for the old systems exceed the cost of a new one. Strictly dollars and cents. It is business after all.

RE: Towing a Jeep with a Dolly is it OK?

Well, Dave, let me see if I can clear up any confusion.
First, while it is true that Jeep doesn't specifically address the issue of disconnecting the driveshaft in the Book, it has been an accepted practice in the towing world for many years. Even wrecker operators use it if they don't want to mess with the little dolly setup.
You misunderstand - I completely agree with what you said - I'm confused as to why anyone would take out a shaft when the manufacturer says there is no need - that's all.
bacollins indicated he removes a shaft from his Jeeps - a 99 Wrangler Toad and a '99 Cherokee Toad - for long trips and if they are 4WD I can't understand why he would bother. I've towed my Jeeps over 60,000 miles and never thought of doing that.

RE: Towing a Jeep with a Dolly is it OK?

... I tow 4 down. If I am going to tow for a long distance, I unlock the front hubs and remove the rear driveshaft, it takes about 15 minutes to either remove or install.
Assuming we are talking 4x4 Jeeps, this even has me confused and I towed a Wrangler and now have a Grand Cherokee.
Every time this tow dolly question comes up the answers range from Yes, no problem, to NO never. I really can't understand the problem because Jeep took the time on both of my vehicles to write a clear and concise towing guide. I would imagine everyone got similar instructions.
As someone correctly pointed out - the OP's friend should look in their manual under Recreational Towing. My guess is they will see what I've always seen in the 4x4 Owner's manual which is 4-down is fine and no mention of removing any shafts. Towing 2-down is never recommended except for emergency movement of the vehicle (as I recall).
Have your friend look in his owner's manual. If he doesn't have one I'm sure someone here has a 2005 and could scan the pages. I would but mine is a '99.

Thanks for that interesting link Tom. As long as they also toss cache instead of swapping to disk it sounds like a fine idea - but I'm not sure I'm willing to give them than much credit right off the bat!

RE: Ready to toss Firefox - anyone use Opera or Safari?

Thanks to those suggesting that an Add-on may be the source of my problems. I uninstalled PicLens (had to disable it first or it wouldn't leave) and after an hour of surfing including many tabs and a 2 meg PDF I'm pleased to report that I'm hovering between 95-105K of memory for Firefox.
The folks at Mozilla better watch out or they'll get a bad rap from the Add-ons they promote on their site. I grabbed PicLens because it was highlighted on the Add-on page. Lesson learned.

RE: CPU and Memory baseline??

1.03 gig for XP would be about 3 times too high for the minimal activity you see and your CPU should be between 0-2%, but I'm not at all sure about what Vista should look like.

RE: Ready to toss Firefox - anyone use Opera or Safari?

I use FF GP 3.01pre and it still does not work with some websites like GM ordering guide so I use IE 8.0 beta.
That must be why GM sales have tanked- they don't have webmasters who can write valid code, so nobody is ordering.
:):D
Actually this is a serious issue I'm seeing more often. Internally where I'm a consultant we have no Vista support and out Training Center requires IE 6 because they do not have the $$$ to upgrade their sites.

Dave are you running AdBlock or AdBlock Plus? If not the Plus, you may want to give it a try instead of AdBlock. Thanks, I'm running Ad-block Plus already.
After running all night - not doing to much because I took a cable hit and my VPN went down at some point - I'm at 100K. I'll report back after a few hours of activity.
